Tulsa Shootout
Past Champions Highlight 29th Shootout Opener
TULSA, Okla. (January 1, 2014) The 2014 racing season is underway with the start of the 29th Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout. Following 75 rounds of practice on Wednesday, January 1; Heat Races for Non-Wing Outlaw and “A” Class began just before 5:00 P.M. (CT) inside the River Spirit Expo Center. A total of 45 Heat Races between the two classes were contested with entrants representing 22 United States and a single Canadian Province.

Non-Wing Outlaw
Outlaw Non-Wing opened with 24 Heats. Five former Shootout Champions, accounting for 16 Golden Drillers, found victory with four-time winner, Blake Hahn, doing so in Heat 6 followed by five-time Shootout winner, Kevin Bayer, in Heat 7.
The nineteenth round of competition saw four-time Shootout winner, Jerrod Wilson race to victory. Heat 20 went to Michael Faccinto who earned his first Golden Driller in 2013; winning the “A” Class Non-Wing feature. Two-time winner, Chris Andrews, ran to victory in Heat 23.
Forming into eight car Heat Races, two drivers were able to charge from the final starting spot to win. Wes McIntyre and Blake Edwards were the hard chargers in Heats 13 and 16.
The first driver upside-down came in Heat 9 when Cole Lambert tumbled into the wall entering the first turn.
Kevin Ramey set the bar in regards to lap time as the only driver to turn a sub-twelve second lap in the night’s opening Heat Race at 11.929 seconds.
Non-Wing Outlaw accounted for 194 entries.

”A” Class
“A” Class began Heat Races at 8:20 P.M. (CT) for their 21 rounds of competition.
Jason Tyer was the first of four former Tulsa Shootout winners to take a Heat Race win. The Irving, Texas driver topped Motorcycles in the 1992 Shootout and took the Heat 6 win. Taking Sportsman in 2001, Shawn Wicker followed quickly with a Heat 7 victory.
Shootout Champion for “A” Class in 2006, Scott Sawyer raced to victory in Heat 10. Junior Sprint Champion in 2005, Mitchell Faccinto raced to victory in Heat 17 and was the only driver in “A” Class to do so from the tail.
Matt Howard raced to victory in the opening Heat for “A” Class, setting the fast time for the division at 11.492 seconds.
A total of 177 entrants made up the field in “A” Class Heat Races.

The 29th Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout continues on Thursday, January 2 with Heat Races beginning at 9:00 A.M. (CT). A combined 71 Heats and 17 Qualifiers for 88 races will be contested with Non-Wing “A” Class starting the day.
